When you picture Christmas, where does your heart take you? Perhaps it’s snow swirling down a quiet street, twinkling lights glowing against pine branches, or a cozy inn with a crackling fire. For me—and for Millie and Luke in my upcoming novel Christmas in Focus—the answer lies in a quaint Vermont town, seemingly crafted for holiday wonder.
Vermont has always carried a certain magic, with its covered bridges, mountain views, and deep connection to nature. It’s the perfect backdrop for a holiday romance, because it reminds us that the simplest things: snowfall at dusk, neighbors waving from across the street, the hush of the woods—are often what feel most like home.
Vermont and Wellness: Comfort in Simple Things
Beyond its postcard-perfect charm, Vermont is also known for its maple syrup and natural, wholesome living. Locals take pride in nourishing their bodies with what the land offers, and maple syrup is a perfect example. Unlike refined sweeteners, real Vermont maple syrup brings minerals like manganese and zinc, and it’s rich in antioxidants.
One of my favorite holiday rituals is making a warm mug of spiced tea or oatmeal sweetened with a drizzle of pure maple syrup. It’s comforting, grounding, and a reminder that holiday wellness doesn’t have to be complicated—it can be as simple as choosing whole, seasonal foods that also warm the soul.
Holiday wellness is also about slowing down, finding moments of rest, and reconnecting with the traditions that nourish more than just the body. In Vermont, that might mean snowshoeing through pine trails, gathering around the fireplace with loved ones, or taking time to savor a homemade meal. These simple rituals remind us that wellness during the holidays is less about perfection and more about presence.also warm the soul.

Sharing Holiday Wellness with Children
Holiday wellness isn’t just about what we eat or how we rest, it’s also about the love we pass along to the next generation. That’s one reason I created Obi the Dobi: A Tail of Christmas Love, the debut in my children’s picture book series. In Obi’s story, little readers learn that love, kindness, and belonging are the true gifts of the season. Reading and sharing stories like this with children is its own form of wellness—nurturing connection, slowing down together, and reminding our families that the holidays are about love more than anything else.
