Trusting Your Journey
TRUST.
That word itself causes triggers for many. It can be repulsive and create a physical reaction with cringes and shivering.
One of the most harmful side effects of the struggles in our lives is developing a lack of trust
in everyone and everything, including yourself. This is often when we get...stuck.
All of my characters face a fear in my novels. In my upcoming Christmas release, The Christmas Coin, Amelia Collins, a professional ballerina has to face her next steps after her career abruptly ends early after an injury...how can she trust what’s next? For Amelia, she's fearful of anything that doesn't involve the only thing she knows: dancing. After making a huge decision on a whim...she is then faced with changes that will forever shape her. Out October 15th, 2024!
In Fly Away Summer, Lana Kelly has lost so much...her parents at a young age, followed by her grandmother as a teenager, then just as she’s about to graduate from culinary school and take over her family’s beloved inn, she and her grandfather lose that too. And to top things off, she’s losing her grandfather to dementia. How much more loss can Lana handle?
How can she trust anything now without the fear of more loss?
One of my favorite quotes in Lana’s story emphasizes her growth and learning to move forward and push past the fear.
"The seagull’s gesture from the dock the day before was small, yet rippled with such great impact, reminding her how strong she could be. Spreading its wings to prompt her to open hers, and to let go of what used to be, always soaring higher without fear." - Fly Away Summer
Lana has to learn that the world around her is safe. She’s on the edge of her seat, holding onto subconscious worry that something else will be lost. Without her realizing it, she is unable to just be and fly free with her life.
When we get the ego out of the way and challenge the thought that everything and everyone in the world is unsafe, we can go from hypervigilance to relaxed. Peace is the ultimate goal, but it has to hold hands with trust. Without a sense of true trust, you cannot be at peace with yourself or others.
This is not saying you have to trust everyone or everything, but trust is possible and inevitable if you want to achieve wholeness. Real protection comes in trusting your intuition and not the reaction to your triggers. Trust comes when your subconscious is in synergist communication with your conscious choices. And that takes time and patience and practice.
Lana discovers along her journey all she had been ignoring and tucked away in her subconscious. When she begins to see life differently through her grandad’s illness...it’s like a very beautiful gift in a very ugly wrapper unfolds before her. This is the same for all of us...life’s gifts through these challenges.
“As his short-term memory continued to fade, his ability to recall memories from long ago became a steppingstone to facing all she’d lost, so she could see her journey ahead and move purposefully toward a new future." - Fly Away Summer
