There’s something about summer that asks us to slow down. The sun lingers longer, the breeze carries the scent of sun and sea, and the idea of sitting with a good book and something nourishing and hydrating becomes more than a want—it becomes a need.

In my novel Fly Away Summer, that same longing to slow down, to listen to the heart, and to rediscover love in unexpected places is where the story begins.
Set on Cape Cod, the story unfolds in a place where that feeling deepens. The salty air holds memories, the rhythm of the tide quiets the mind, and even the simplest moments—like reading on a weathered porch or sipping something cool beneath blooming hydrangeas—feel timeless. It’s what Lana Kelly must hold on to as she watches her grandfather’s legacy threatened once again as she begins to discover one of her own. . .
Sip and Savor the Season
Inspired by Lana's story, where food, family, and finding your way all matter—today, I’m sharing two of my favorite summer comforts:

This story is warm and heartfelt, deeply intertwined with family, food, and love in the most unexpected way—like holding a piece of sunshine in your hand.
It’s cozy, healing, and perfect for any summer day with ocean breezes and hopeful hearts.
🥭 Hydrating Mango Smoothie
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups watermelon in season (or coconut water)
2 cups frozen mango cubes
1 ripe banana

5 fresh mint leaves
2 tbsp lime juice
Directions:Blend ingredients on low for 1 minute, then high for 2 minutes until smooth. Garnish with lime slices. Sip it in sunlight… it’s the sipable version of a coastal hug.
☀️ Why It Matches the Vibe
Just like how Fly Away Summer immerses you in Cape Cod’s coastal charm and fresh, feel-good cooking, this smoothie is all about bright flavor, natural sweetness, and clean refreshment. With hints of mint and lime that echo the salty breeze off the bay, it’s the kind of thing Lana might whip up in her seaside restaurant after a morning at the beach—simple, nourishing, and full of life.
🥗 Nourish to Flourish
The muscles, including the heart, rely on electrolytes like calcium, sodium, and potassium for peak performance and energy. In hot weather or after exercise, our need for these nutrients spikes.
Watermelon and coconut water provide natural electrolytes to keep energy flowing and muscles humming. It’s nourishment that revitalizes both body and storytelling soul.
As a nutritionist and author, I believe in the power of a good story and something nourishing. This summer, turn the page, take a breath, and feed your soul.
